Wine on the Water 19 November 2011

11-wine-on-the-water-image-01Sun-soaked visitors enjoyed great wines at what has been described by most as the perfect setting at the inaugural Wine on the Water wine show presented by Peter Venter and held at the Villa Via Hotel in Gordon’s Bay this past Saturday, 19 November 2011.

Thirty eight wineries participated in the Wine on the Water show organised by Jaco Roets and sponsored by Peter Venter, Villa Via Hotel, Spar Gordon’s Bay, Gordon’s Bay Security and Swift Events. The concept was the brainchild of estate agent, Jaco Roets, who wanted to create an event to showcase Gordon’s Bay and the spectacular views the luxury Villa Via Hotel has to offer.

Hosted on the boardwalk of the Villa Via Hotel more than 500 visitors tasted over 100 wines from both well-established producers such as Fleur du Cap and Rickety Bridge and lesser known wineries such as Usana, The High Road and Mitre’s Edge. Producers hailed from all corners of the South African wine world including Hermanus and Piketberg. Visitors were treated to snacks and had the opportunity to taste the wines in beautiful big complimentary wine glasses. All the wines could be purchased by order form and the wineries enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and new markets they could subject their product to.

To quote one of the visitors “Only you guys (Jaco Roets and Peter Venter) could pull off such a classy wonderful event. Well done! People are going to talk about this one for a long time. It was superbly organized. Great choices of wines. Stunning venue. Such lovely, lovely people attended. Everyone that I chatted to really enjoyed it. What a lovely day!” – Di Nosworthy.

A painting by Eddie Barton was on silent auction and all the proceeds from the auction and ticket sales went to the NSRI showing the commitment of the organisers to give back to the local Gordon’s Bay community.

The organisers hope to make this a yearly event so if you require any information please contact Jaco Roets on 021 856 5050 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
